The Egyptian Trade Union Organization for Private Sector Workers called on the Egyptian Parliament to refer the Insurance and Retirement Law No. 148 of 2019 to the Parliamentary Manpower Committee in order to amend the articles on early retirement because they are considered by the union to be unrealistic. It called for this law to be reviewed with the participation of experts, specialists, labour leaders and employers.
The trade union source justified his demand to amend this law due to the anger it sparked among the workers, as it raised the retirement age to 65 years and set prohibitive conditions for obtaining early retirement, considering that this law has proven to be ineffective even before orders for its implementation were issued.
