Algeria: Companies of Mechanics, Metals and Electronics Stopped Paying its Workers in Months

The syndicate of the mechanical, mineral, and electronic sector of the General Union of Algerian Workers called on the Ministry of Industry to intervene to solve the crisis of 7 governmental companies and 25 industrial branches in the metal and electronic sector.

The crisis, as the union explained, is caused by companies that are not not paying the workers’ wages for few months and their decline of production caused by the absence of new contracts and the lack of raw materials.

The union confirmed that these companies are threatened by bankruptcy which may lead to firing about 50 thousand workers.

The Syndicate called on the authorities to open a dialogue about the status of these companies in order to provide radical solutions and warned against returning to privatization and cooperation with foreigners.
