Work permits for Syrian workers in Jordan decreased by 18.8% in 2020.
Data issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) showed that the number of work permits issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Labour to Syrian refugees from 2016 until the end of last year amounted to 215,668 work permits.
On the other hand, the UNHCR office in Jordan stated that 41% of Syrian workers in Jordan lost their jobs due to the lockdown and quarantine resulting from COVID-19 and indicated that they were working in services and agricultural sectors.
Jordan has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrians since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011.
