After the second week of continued strikes of healthcare professionals in the West Bank, the health trade unions decided to escalate their protests. Starting on Wednesday, March 10th, they will cease making tests for people with infections and COVID-19 and will only work on emergency cases (30%).
This decision comes as a result to the government’s indifference to the demands of paramedics in the West Bank, including promotions, bonuses, and hiring contractors who have spent several years in the workplace.
A spokesperson for the health professions trade unions justified the strike by saying that the government did not respond to the demands that they included in a letter three months ago mentioning that they are exposed to the same risks as doctors who received a salary raise.
The same source demanded justice for the 8,600 paramedics and warned that if the government does not respond to their demands the strike will continue.
