Libya: General Petroleum Union Calls for Wage Increase and Threatens to Escalate its Protests

The General Petroleum Union has called for the activation of the wage increases decided in 2013. The union gave the relevant authorities one week before it escalated its protests.

In a statement, the General Petroleum Union said that if the authorities did not proceed with the wage increase, it would move towards a gradual reduction in oil production in accordance with the law, the constitutional declaration, and international conventions.

It should be recalled that this decision was taken at a general meeting of the union devoted to studying the issues of wage increases, health insurance and late payments. In this context, the union denounced the negligence of workers in the sector and their demands by the supervisory authorities.
