In a statement, the civil society addressed the Jordanian government regarding the amendments of the Labour Law presented to the Parliament.
The statement mentions that the articles are fragmented, selective, and inadequate for the labour market, include articles that have not been amended for a long time, and were prepared in the absence of the parties of the tripartite dialogue.
The statement mentions that the revision should be comprehensive and ensuring decent work conditions including eliminating discrimination in employment, eliminating all forms of forced labour, eliminating child labour, strengthening mechanisms for social dialogue and collective bargaining, protecting the right to unionize, increasing women’s economic participation, and respecting work standards for all workers, all sectors of work and different categories of workers in both the formal and informal sectors.
