Iraq: Electricity Workers Protest for Permanent Work Contracts

Thousands of employees and workers of the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq participated in a protest in front of the Green Zone in Baghdad on February 13, 2021, asking for permanent contracts instead of temporary ones.

The protestors had many demands including urging that the 2021 Ministry’s budget should include a part dedicated to changing the contracts of these 8,743 employees, similarly to the ministry's permanent professions, especially since many of them spent about fourteen years with temporary contracts.

Representatives of the Electricity Syndicate of the Iraqi Governorates and the General Federation of Trade Unions in Iraq participated in this protest.
