Human rights organizations refuse returning migrants to Libya, due to their constant exposure to smuggling networks, human traffickers, and crime.
In January, Coast Guards returned nearly 300 people, including women and children, to shelters located in Libya.
The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHRL) in Libya confirmed, in a statement, that the European Union’s continuing policies towards boats coming to their coasts go against their duty towards immigration and refugee problems and the international laws and conventions.
Migrant shelters have become source of profit in the absence of law and control by the government.
In a report, Amnesty International documented illegal practices committed by armed militias against migrants by forcing them to participate in military operations and using the shelters to store weapons.
