The General Confederation of Mauritanian Workers (CGTM), in a meeting with the government, rejected the new reforms of social security introduced by the government.
The Confederation urged a total, and not partial, review of the social security system which aims only to increase the retirement age to 63 and raise contributions to social security.
The Confederation requested a delaying the negotiations because the government is not supposed to appoint representatives or schedule collective negotiations. It called for the need to respect the representative aspect of trade union organizations as stated in labour legislation.
The Confederation’s demands to respect the laws have been ignored by the government.
