About 500 workers protested for days, starting on February 11, 2021, in front of the headquarters of the Maghreb Company for Mechanical Industries (Isuzu) in Kairouan against the arbitrary expulsion of 26 workers, demanding the return of the expelled workers and the recognition of the right of unionize.
A Tunisian media source stated that this protest led to founding a trade union for the workers of this company for the first time in order to defend their rights. 450 workers have joined it so far.
The protestors demanded that a wage increase which they have not received for five years, in addition to the provision of occupational health and safety supplies and potable water in the factory.
The Regional Labour Union in Kairouan supported this sit-in and expressed solidarity with the protesters.
