In a gathering by the workers, the General Secretary of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) said in his visit to the port of Oran, which has the largest worker density in North Africa, that the workers’ freedom to choose their representatives is non-negotiable. He, also, added that the union centralization will continue democratizing the organization and providing all the necessary conditions for its members to choose their representatives freely and without any influence.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the position of the General Union of Algerian Workers on the retirement law that was amended in 2017. The union considers it unfair to a large group of workers and, asks, hence for a revision of the law.
Salim Labatcha added that the worker average wage should be around 75,000 Algerian dinars to meet their monthly needs.
