Daily wage workers in municipalities work more than ten hours per day and do not have any social security. Their situation has been severely impacted by COVID-19. In addition to obliging them to work outside their work hours, authorities can abruptly end their contracts. Demanding a permanent contract is one of their basic rights especially in the current situation.
A memorandum has been submitted to the Ministry of Local administration since 2019 demanding the workers’ integration in municipalities under the 2020 state budget.
Municipalities have currently reached a number of 6,000 daily wage workers without a permanent contract since 2014. Their representative mentioned that their demands will not impact the state budget since municipalities have their own.
Their demands are legitimate in the current circumstances of the pandemic.
