In a statement to the government, the Free Confederation of Mauritanian Workers warns of the economic, social, and humanitarian consequences of the worsening living conditions of Mauritanians.
The Confederation said that the new year witnessed a shocking increase in the prices of the most basic needs. Because of the high demand on them and their profit, trade monopoly of these basic necessities has increased.
The Confederation’s Secretary-General noted that the increase of prices will impact Mauritanians especially during the pandemic that has effected all the sectors and worsened the crisis Mauritania is undergoing of unemployment, poor wages, and limited social security.
The Confederation, in this regard, urges adopting new policies to control trade monopoly and the price increase.
