The general secretary of Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) Shaher Saed met representatives of the security and police services for public safety, in workshops, factories, and constructions, in Nablus.
The participants discussed the outputs issued by the Union including data about the absence of safety and security in the workplace which led to increasing the rate of deaths among workers either in occupied Palestine or in the labour market.
Participants in the meeting included members of the general secretary of the Union, representatives of the police and civil defence, “Foundation for Political and Moral Guidance,” the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Labour, and customs control.
Saed showed that workers are victims of accidents and crimes in the workplace due to the absence of protection. He calls the ministries and municipalities to work for a better protection in the workplace to decrease work accidents. He adds that, in 2020, 25 workers died in the workplace.
Families of the victims, he says, face major difficulties due to the absence of social security laws which necessitates a collective effort to better protect the workers.
The director of political guidance points to the importance of the companies’ role in raising awareness of Covid-19 and starting campaigns considering that a religious, moral, and patriotic act.
