20 Sub-Saharan African immigrants were found dead in the shores of Sfax in their way to Italy. Security authorities mentioned that 5 immigrants were saved and that it is still looking for twenty immigrants who were on a boat of 45 people, according to the survivors. Last June, in Kerkennah Islands, a sinking boat led to the death of 60 immigrants.

The Tunisian ministry of the Interior declared that it managed to stop more than 30 attempts of illegal immigration and catching 262 immigrants. Illegal immigration reached its peak in the first quarantine following the propagation of Covid-19, particularly last July and August. Sub-Saharan African immigrants choose to go to Tunisia to work and collect the money needed for their immigration.

In the last three years, Tunisia is witnessing the growing number of Sub-Saharan African immigrants. According to a report done by the American Centre for Strategic and international studies on immigration in North Africa, the number of Sub-Saharan African immigrants reaches up to 70 thousand.

Tunisian General Labour Union claims that there currently are more than 700 thousand Sub-Saharan African workers. It, also, claims that the number has probably increased due to the flux of illegal immigrants from Libya.
