Tunisia: the Strike of University Doctors, Pharmacists, and Dentists has been Delayed

The General Syndicate of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists of Public Health has decided to delay its strike to January 27, in case the government would not publish the laws relating to the sectoral agreement signed on October 6, 2020.

The union said that, after a meeting in the presence of the union, the Minister of Health, and the assistant secretary general of the Tunisian General Labour Union, the decision to postpone the strike came after reaching an agreement to acknowledge the role of university doctors.

The agreement includes the systematic approval of general practitioners specializing in medicine and approving allowances (of university teaching, supervision, and start of the academic year).

It has, also, been agreed to have a meeting on January 20 including representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education and the general secretary of the General Syndicate of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists of Public Health to revise the fundamental law and to recognize the role of university doctors.
