Google employees create the first union in the company’s history

Hundreds of workers at Google and Alphabet Inc company formed a union which can be considered as exceptional and important for the technology sector, being the largest and most organized union facing the company's executive leadership.

According to an article in New York Times, the union started with 200 members and signed 226 membership cards with the Communications Workers of America Labor Group, the biggest Union of the country.

Andrew Gainer-Dewar, a software engineer in Google and one of the Union’s founders, said that they secretly started founding the Union one year ago.

The state accredits a union when the majority of the workers vote for it in the National Labour Relations Council. Employers can, also, voluntarily acknowledge a union if an important number of workers want the union to speak in their name.
