Yemen: The head of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Yemen asks the government to implement wage restructuring given the current circumstances

The General Federation of Trade Unions of Yemen asks the government to implement wage restructuring given the current circumstances, particularly currency drop and high food prices.

The head of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Yeme, Ali Belkhadr, asked, in a meeting in Al Mahrah Governorate on Monday, to implement serious and urgent measures to stop the currency drop, which led to a salary reduction of 400% compared to other currencies. The salary reduction negatively impacted the employees.

Belkhader insists that the government needs to interfere in the situation of the employees and restructure the salaries.

He adds that workers are facing difficult situations with the increase in food prices and the currency drop. In 2020, he argues, the workers’ situation got worse. The salaries, he said, are no longer enough to cover the necessary expense.
