Jordan: new measures in favour of Egyptian workers in agriculture

In the light of monitoring the Egyptian workers’ situation in Jordan during the second wave of Covid-19, the Egyptian minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan received a report from workers’ representative office of the Egyptian embassy in Amman.

The ministry’s press secretary declared that after the negotiations and collaborations with the ministry of Labour to discuss the challenges facing Egyptian workers, the Jordanian minister of Labour decided to facilitate the procedures to Egyptian and foreign workers.

Hence, the Jordanian minister decided to allow workers whose work permit expires after 12/07/2020 to change their employers in the agricultural sector according to the agricultural exploitations agreed upon.

Foreign workers can equally renew their work permits and work with the same employer and agricultural exploitation regardless of the latter’s need in terms of workforce.

The new decision allows agricultural workers, both Egyptians and otherwise, to change vocation in the agricultural sector with any employer according to the terms of the agreement. The minister says that private farms are, also, part of the agricultural sector. Hence, they can employ workers but workers will have have to pay for the work permit fees.
