A report by the Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) indicates that Covid-19 impacted women workers more than men. The government’s superior orders aggravated the situation for women leading to the rise of unemployment rates among them and women’s responsibilities after closing down the nurseries and schools and replacing them with online education.

The president of the Jordanian Women’s Union (JWU) declared that “the government’s defence act had major impacts on women which led to the rise of women unemployment rates up to 23%. There are also economic impacts caused by closing down establishments which made it a lot more difficult for women to stay in their jobs. Small business owners and domestic workers have failed to keep their businesses due closing down most establishment and the decreasing purchasing power.”

In the same report, the association called for the expansion of prevention, protection, rehabilitation and reintegration policies for women.
