In a December 17, 2020 statement, the Department of Transportation and Logistics said it has presented a new initiative to governors to allow owners of irregular transit vehicles to transport farm workers beyond authorized areas.
The Ministry explained that it has initiated an exceptional plan that governors have been asked to implement since December 2018. This plan allows for the licensing of friendly agricultural service companies to acquire or allocate means of transport equipped for the transportation of agricultural workers for the benefit of their member members and their customers and to authorize, on an exceptional basis, any person to transport workers on board a means of transport equipped for this purpose.
However, the Ministry has indicated that despite these simplified procedures, only a limited number of licenses have been granted. With respect to the draft document on retrofitting heavy-duty trucks for the transportation of persons, the news release noted that this document is only a draft that has not yet been approved.
