One hundred workers of the Touissit Mining Company, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), began an open strike at the Jbel Aouam mining site where they are also organizing a sit-in at a depth of 700 meters.
The workers are protesting against the administration's refusal to implement the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 with representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and local authorities and are demanding improvements in their working conditions.
The strikers strongly condemned the "inactive spectator position adopted by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and local authorities" and called for the opening of a dialogue around their demands in order to save the workers' lives.
