The Egyptian newspaper 'Akhbar Elyom' published a report on the problems faced by day laborers due to the suspension of building permits.
The report pointed out that many day laborers are unemployed since the Ministry of Local Development decided to suspend the granting of building or renovation permits for private homes. The ministry had also suspended work underway in Cairo, Alexandria, and other major governorates and cities. These suspensions increased the financial burdens on workers in the sector, especially day laborers such as carpenters, blacksmiths, plumbers, winch workers, engravers, ceramic artisans, and others.
work recalled that the workers of the informal sector in Egypt represent more than 40% of the total workers who are 30 million people. The newspaper recalled that the suspension of building permits has caused total paralysis in a sector that concerns millions of families.
