The secretary general of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, Chahar Saad, chaired a meeting of the Council of General Trade Unions in Nablus last Wednesday in the presence of members of the secretariat-general, Saher Sarsour and Aisha Hamouda, and the secretary of the Nablus Council of Trade Unions, Abdelkarim Doueikat.
During this meeting, Chahar Saad presented the electoral mechanisms and programs of the general unions of the governorate of Nablus. Recall that these elections, which were to be held in March 2020, have been postponed because of the pandemic of Covid-19.
In this context, Chahar Saad recalled the importance of the elections in guaranteeing the transparency and democracy of trade union work.
At the end of the meeting, the trade union leader evoked the role of the trade union center in the fight against the pandemic and recalled the activities set up by the Emergency Committee of the General Union of the Governorate of Nablus which ensured contact with workers by making several field visits in collaboration with government institutions representing the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Economy and Customs. Mr. Saad also recalled all the efforts that have been made to revive economic activities and protect workers and their rights.
