Palestine: payment of aid to 10,000 households impacted by the pandemic

The representative of the Ministry of Labor in Ramallah, Samar Slama, said that the Ministry has completed all procedures for the implementation of aid for 68,000 workers who were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. These aids are financed by a grant of 20 million dollars from the World Bank. Samar Slama said that in the coming days, 10,000 households in the West Bank and Gaza Strip will receive this aid.

For his part, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced, during his meeting with the head and members of the board of the Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, that the government will soon begin to pay aid to workers in the West Bank and Gaza.

Slama said that the government has expanded the classes of beneficiaries of this aid to 68 thousand workers in all governorates of the country. Each worker will receive the sum of 700 shekels. The list of beneficiaries has been established on the basis of data provided by the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Social Affairs, governorates and municipal councils.

Regarding the selection criteria, the representative of the Ministry of Labor in Ramallah explained that the beneficiaries are divided between those working in the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic and those who work on their own account and, especially, those who work in the informal sector or who are daily workers.
