The office of the Democratic Union of Mauritanian Workers (UDTM) within the company Mauritrac, representative of the French company J.A Delmas, denounced the abusive dismissal of 23 workers of the company.
The office of the UDTM has in this context called on the director of labor to intervene quickly to ensure that the company respects the law. The union office also called on the labor inspectorate in West Nouakchott to ensure implementation of the Prime Minister's circular regarding workers' representatives who should be elected as soon as possible.
The union office accused the company of blocking the election of workers' representatives and noted that no Mauritanian workers have received training according to Caterpillar standards; according to the union, Mauritanian workers continue to be marginalized by the administration, which deprives them of services, promotions and training.
The trade union office stressed that the company which has released tens of millions for the payment of bonuses for foreign executives at the end of April 2020, at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, and whose coffers are still full thanks to the bills paid by the companies MCM, SNIM, KINROSS and EFFIAGE can not pretext these dismissals by an economic and financial crisis.
