The President of the General Federation of Yemeni Trade Unions, Ali Ahmed Belkhadr, chaired a meeting of the executive board of the Federation of Workers' Unions in Mahra Governorate. This meeting was devoted to a discussion about the trade union work and its role in preserving the rights of civil servants and workers.
In this context, Ali Ahmed Belkhadr stressed that the social situation of workers requires urgent intervention by the government so that they can cope with the devaluation of the currency and high inflation. The union leader added that the current year is experiencing a steady deterioration in purchasing power and that wages no longer allow employees to provide for their families and allow their children to continue their education.
The president of the General Federation of Trade Unions called on the government to stop the devaluation of the currency which has led to a 400% drop in wages compared to other currencies.
For his part, the president of the Federation of Trade Unions of Workers of Mahra Governorate said that all the trade union committees in the region are continuing their work and that they will soon discuss their organization and the general plan for 2021.
