Bahrain: Three defendants brought to justice for their involvement in the deaths of three workers and the injury of a fourth in the "pipeline project".

The Bahraini Public Prosecutor's Office has closed its investigations into the death of three workers and the injury of a fourth – asphyxiated by gas emitted on the construction site – in one of the pipeline projects. The charges were brought against the administrative director, project manager and occupational safety controller of the company executing the project. All three accused are allegedly responsible for the death and injury of the workers.

Based on the testimonies, crime scene evidence, the conclusions of the medical examiner and the reports of the occupational health and safety expert of the supervising ministry, the investigations revealed that the accused failed in their duties and did not respect the standards of their work by not providing the workers with the tools to protect themselves.

According to the prosecutor's office, the three defendants also failed to verify safety on the construction site and did not inform workers of the dangers to which they were exposed. Company officials also failed to notify the Ministry of Public Works, Municipal Affairs and Planning to verify the compliance of the worker protection devices, which is a violation of the workplace safety requirements established by law and regulatory decisions. These failures and violations have resulted in worker fatalities and injuries.

The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the three accused persons to be returned to criminal court.
