Lebanon: FENASOL calls for ratification of Convention number 190

On the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and on the basis of the principles set out in Convention 190 adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) At its General Conference in mid-2019, the National Federation of Trade Unions of Workers and Employees in Lebanon (FENASOL) issued a joint statement with the Association ‘Egalité-Wardah Boutros pour l'action féminine’. The communiqué welcomed workers and officials from Lebanon and around the world and stressed that they continue to be victims of different forms of exploitation and violence due to, the worsening economic crisis of capitalism and the impact of Covid-19 on all classes of workers.

The statement added that it has become necessary today to make the voice of workers and civil servants heard – through trade unions, feminist organizations and social bodies – and to develop a programme for serious action, at all levels, in order to eradicate this scourge and to put pressure on Lebanon to ratify Convention No 190 and apply it through the necessary legislation.
