Broadcast by a children’s channel, a video clip entitled ‘Al Khadama’ (the worker) sparked a wave of outrage on social networks because of its racist and discriminatory content.
The music video resumes the relationship of a family with his domestic worker who seeks money to care for his sick daughter and tries to escape from the house. The clip includes another shocking scene played by small people giving an image that harms people with special needs.
Following the broadcast of the video, feminist activists in many Arab countries have called on the channel to withdraw it and publicly apologize for broadcasting racist content and indirectly inciting violence against domestic workers.
The channel responded to these requests and removed the clip that was viewed more than six million times. However, the channel did not make a formal apology in its press release following this incident.
