Workers at the waste sorting plant in Sanic, south of the city of Sidon, held a sit-in the day before yesterday and decided to leave their strike open. The workers blocked the trucks' access to the factory, thus implementing the protest plan they had announced last October. The protesters are calling for a wage increase that will allow them to cope with the price increase caused by the economic crisis that Lebanon has been experiencing since last year.
Reacting to the sit-in, the President of the Administrative Board of the company ABC that manages the plant said that he understands the legitimacy of the request of workers who collect wages on the basis of the exchange rate of 1,500 while the cost of living increases considerably. “However, the solution does not belong to us because, as the President of the Federation knows, the company is in a deficit position,” he added.
