ILO: Working women are most affected by Covid-19

The International Labour Organization (ILO) released a new report last Wednesday revealing that in the first half of 2020, monthly wages have fallen or been frozen due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ILO report said that the wages of women and low-paid workers have been disproportionately affected by the crisis. Although the ILO predicts continued pressure on wages from the health crisis, it said that the crisis will begin to weaken in the short term.

Based on a sample of 28 European countries, the study shows that women lost 8.1% of their wages in the second quarter of the current year compared to 5.4% for men. These calculations did not take into account the benefits and holidays that have been granted due to the global health crisis.
