Palestine: Training Workshop on Gender-Based Violence

In collaboration with the Workers' Solidarity Centre, the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions organized a training workshop on gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace on Friday. The aim of the workshop was to set out the measures needed to deal with the cases identified by training the organisers of the various trade unions and committees concerned to enable them to prepare and organise, in turn, workshops on the issue. Representatives of municipal unions, spinning and weaving and health services attended the meeting.

The Director of the Workers' Solidarity Centre, Abla Masrouja, said that this workshop is part of the organization’s programs set up in collaboration with Palestinian unions to raise awareness on the issue of gender-based violence in the workplace. The purpose of these programs is to help trade unionists organize meetings with workers in the workplace to identify harassment and to treat them effectively. According to the official, this method will increase the number of members of sectoral unions in Palestine.

Abla Masrouja added that the Centre has held several events and trainings as part of its 2020 plan. These events were aimed at trade unionists and members of municipal, spinning and weaving unions and health service boards and generally focused on strengthening communication skills, notions of union gathering and organizing meetings with workers to encourage them to express themselves on the issue of violence in the workplace.
