Jordan: ILO organises consultative meeting on formal economy

work necessary for this transition.

In this context, the Ministry of Labour, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, the Social Security Society, the Jordanian Chamber of Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, The Union of Entrepreneurs and the Union of Agricultural Engineers noted that the Covid-19 crisis has lifted the veil on the major gaps in the informal sector.

The meeting discussed the need to combat the expansion of the informal economy in Jordan, as agreed in 2015, especially in light of the impacts of the pandemic and recalled that structural challenges (including poor labour market management), which existed long before this crisis, must be resolved in order to allow the transition to the formal economy.
