The Director-General of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and the Regional Counsellor for Social Protection at the International Labour Organization (ILO) – ILO Regional Office for Arab States – organized a meeting to discuss the development of social protection in Lebanon. The main issues raised during the meeting were:
1. Transform the end-of-service system into a more secure system for insured pensioners by replacing it with a pension and social protection system guaranteeing a pension for life
2. Grant unemployment benefit to employees who stop work suddenly and temporarily.
3. Carry out a global assessment to prepare for the extension of social protection to all classes of Lebanese society, including informal sector workers.
4. Assess the financial situation of the CNSS over the medium and long term.
5. At the same meeting, the Director-General of the CNSS presented the ongoing work aimed at extending social protection to all Lebanese ensuring that it is its main objective.
