Jordan: Government authorizes wage cuts in sectors hardest hit by pandemic

A decree of the Presidency of the Government has been published in the Official Journal authorizing the employer to lower the wages of the months of November and December for the employee not in charge of a work, in person or at a distance, in sectors most affected by the pandemic without the approval of the worker or the Ministry of Labour.

However, these reductions must meet two conditions: the rate of reduction must not exceed 30% of the wage and the wage, once reduced, must not be lower than the minimum wage.

The decree stipulates that workers in sectors that have not been hard hit by the pandemic must receive their full salary whether they have worked face-to-face or remotely.
