Lebanon: FENASOL calls for the preservation of the clearing fund

In a statement issued at the end of a meeting held earlier this week, the executive board of the National Federation of Trade Unions of Workers and Employees in Lebanon (FENASOL) rejected the lifting of compensation and called for the maintenance of wages.

The Executive Board considered that the lifting of subsidies on essential products such as medicines, fuel and certain food products would be fatal to Lebanon’s poor class.

In her statement, the trade union center explained that the policies put in place by the authorities represent an execution of the instructions dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank and seek to impose more tax on the poorest. According to the same source, these policies target social security and the public service in favor of a savage privatization that would serve the most corrupt.

work, the trade union centre has called for the formation of an independent national government capable of putting in place a comprehensive development plan to put an end to the collapse of the national economy and to fight corruption.
