ILO: Report on Arab social protection measures during the Corona pandemic

The International Labor Organization (ILO) in the Arab region, has published a summary of the major social protection measures adopted by countries in the Middle East and North Africa/Arab countries as an immediate response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. The summary presents the social protection measures, benefits and services provided by Governments and United Nations agencies to citizens and non-citizens, such as refugees, in 21 countries in the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab region

Four major types of social protection projects were examined which are :Social insurance and labor market intervention, Social assistance, Social measures for foreign workers, refugees and displaced persons and Changes in administrative and field procedures for social protection programs

This summary is prepared by the United Nations Regional Alliance for Social Protection (IBC-SP) for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arab region. It is a coalition jointly chaired by ILO and UNICEF, and comprising regional experts from ILO, UNICEF, ESCWA, FAO, IOM, UNDP, UNHCR, who, UNRWA, WFP and the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO).
