Bahrain: The General Federation participates in the round table organized by the National Institute for Human Rights

The Deputy Secretary General of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Bahrain, Hassen Halwaji, participated in the roundtable organized by the National Human Rights Institute under the theme ‘The Bahraini Experience and its Role in Promoting and Protecting the Rights of Migrant Workers during the Covid-19 Pandemic’. Organized in a virtual format on Monday, September 28, 2020, this round table brought together representatives of the ministries of the Interior, Health, Labour and Social Development, Parliament, Shura and civil society cocomponent.

During this meeting, the Deputy Secretary General of the Trade Union Centre presented the results of the questionnaire conducted by the Committee for the Monitoring of Migrant Workers in Bahrain, to which more than nine foreign communities, working in the majority of sectors, took part. The presentation concluded with several recommendations:

· Enabling social dialogue between the three parts of production in all aspects of the protection of the rights of foreign workers.

· Creating a platform dedicated to tracking foreign workers impacted by the impact of Covid_19 (wages, plane tickets, housing, wages, etc.).

· Conducting field surveys, under the auspices of the Labour Market Regulator, on workers and sectors most affected by the pandemic.

· Requiring employers to fulfill their legal and humanitarian obligations to foreign nationals who lose their jobs.
