On Saturday, the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions held a ceremony to pay tribute to women. Organized on the occasion of Palestinian National Women’s Day, the ceremony was held at the Federation’s headquarters in Al-Eizariya in East Jerusalem.
On behalf of the Secretary-General of the Federation, the President of the Union of Community Service Workers in Jerusalem delivered a speech in which he highlighted the distinctive national role of women from Palestine and Jerusalem in defending general national interests. In his speech, the trade union leader said that the next ceremony will soon be held in the capital of the future independent Palestinian state to be installed in East Jerusalem.
For her part, Women’s Spokesperson, Miran Abu Hadwan, explained that the meeting was held under difficult conditions because of the pandemic that requires the implementation of specific measures. She added that Covid-19 has impacted the world and has made families in general and women in particular vulnerable. The official added that the General Federation continues to press the authorities to amend and strengthen the laws that protect women.
For her part, the president of the Amuniti Foundation, Mervat Al-Husseini, called for the establishment of strategies and plans to help all vulnerable classes, especially women in Jerusalem, by strengthening and strengthening their rights. Mervat Al-Husseini also stressed the importance of organizing workshops to revive national institutions and especially those responsible for children and people with special needs.
