The International Labour Organization (ILO) welcomed Jordan’s adoption of system 93 on social protection linked to maternity protection, which aims to empower working mothers by keeping them in the labour force.
The ILO explained that the new system, published under the Social Security Act n°1 of 2014, provides financial benefits to working mothers to allow them to return to work after childbirth while caring for their children in day care or at home. The organisation stressed that the system represents a step forward in the protection of women’s rights in Jordan and that it complies with international labour standards, in particular Convention No. 183 on the Protection of Maternity and Convention No. 156 on Workers with Family Responsibilities.
