The Regional Bureau of Young Workers of the Saharan Provinces, under the Moroccan Workers' Union (UMT), has issued a statement denouncing the police repression against a protest rally organized in front of the UMT headquarters in Laâyoune.
In the statement, the regional office explained that the armed forces targeted a rally organized by militants who respected the barrier gestures, like social distancing, by assaulting them. In this context, the organisation claimed that the situation in Laâyoune has become worrying because of the repression of trade unionists by local authorities.
The regional office called on the secretary-general of the UMT to denounce this aggression to the Minister of the Interior and call on him to initiate an investigation into the incident so that those responsible are punished.
