Tunisia: Civil engineers strike in public institutions

The Order of Tunisian Engineers (ILO) called on all its structures to observe a general strike in all public institutions on 27 October 2020. The engineers claim the generalization of the specific salary increase granted to civil service engineers in accordance with the agreement of September 5, 2019.

In a statement issued on Monday 5 October, the ILO called its affiliates, its sectoral and regional structures as well as the civil service engineers at the gathering and support of this strike in order to put an end to the continuing deterioration of the situation of Tunisian engineers in general and, particularly, engineers from public institutions.

The ILO has called on the new government to break with the policy of segregation between Tunisian engineers and to resolve the issue of the specific increase of engineers in public institutions in order to mitigate the fall in their purchasing power having pushed many of them to leave the country.
