Last Wednesday, Air Algerie’s aircraft maintenance technicians declared a general strike at Alger-Houari Boumediene airport to denounce the working conditions and the pressure they are subjected to from their administration.
The Algerian newspaper El Khabar reported that workers are protesting against the lack of any “health protocol” at work. Interviewed by the newspaper, one of the strikers said that two workers have already died of the coronavirus. While sanitary masks and hydro-alcoholic gel are not available.”
He also stated that the administration exerts all kinds of pressure on workers, such as changing the system of working from slots to administrative hours in order to be able to dispose of wages as it wishes, although the work did not stop at maintenance.
According to the same source, the payment of wages has been greatly disrupted which has increased tensions in the ranks of technicians.
