Jordan: Tamkeen Centre calls for minimum wage increase to be published in Official Journal

The Tamkeen Centre for Legal Aid has called for the publication of the minimum wage increase in the official journal recalling that it was signed last February.

The centre explained that the increase in the minimum wage is becoming an emergency that must enter into force as soon as possible in order to help workers, whether foreign or Jordanian, to cope with inflation and rising prices.

Recall that the tripartite committee on labour affairs issued a decision to increase the minimum wage to 260 dinars for Jordanians and 230 for foreigners. This increase will take effect on January 1, 2021. Eight months later, the increase has still not been published in the Jordan Official Journal.

Tamkeen has previously warned about the postponement of the entry into force of this increase; while decisions on the minimum wage were previously implemented immediately after the decision of the tripartite committee, the recent increase is still delayed. Tamkeen recalled that this is a violation of Article 52 of the Labour Code.
