Morocco: UMT National Secretariat welcomes success of protest programme

The National Secretariat of the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT) organized a meeting on 8 October during which the Secretary-General, Miloudi Moukharik, presented the state of the political situation, economic and social developments in Morocco, where the achievements of workers are seriously threatened.

After discussing all agenda items, The National Secretariat of the Trade Union Centre issued a statement in which it welcomed the success of the protest programme which it had called for in order to reject the government’s attempt to get the strike project approved, which threatens union freedoms.The statement also welcomed the initiative of UMT representatives to the Board of Directors of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) who withdrew from the last meeting of the GC to protest against the violation of the laws committed by the line ministries.

The National Secretariat also expressed its concerns about the 2021 Finance Bill and warned against the austerity measures it is taking reminding the government that the public budget remains the main engine of the economy.
