The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics published an official report on the repercussions of the pandemic on the labor market, in which it confirmed a decrease in the number of workers from 1.009.900 in the first quarter of 2020 to 888.700 in the second quarter of 2020, by 12%.
Consequently, 121.000 workers lost their jobs during the second quarter of 2020.
The report indicated a decrease in the number of workers in the Gaza Strip by 17% compared to the first quarter of 2020, and also decreased in the West Bank by 10% for the same period.
The report also stated that the number of workers in the local market decreased from 888.000 workers in the first quarter of 2020 to 793.000 workers in the second quarter of 2020, of which 17% were in the Gaza Strip and 8% in the West Bank.
In its listing of unemployment indicators, the report mentioned that the number of unemployed reached 321.400 in the second quarter of 2020, of whom 203.200 were in the Gaza Strip compared to 118.200 in the West Bank.
The report stated that a worker needs 14.1 months to obtain a new job in Palestine, as it takes 8.6 months for a worker to find a job in the West Bank, while it takes 17 months for those in the Gaza Strip.
