In a new study, the International Labour Organization (ILO) found that Arab women are hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The study found that women are expected to lose approximately 700,000 job opportunities due to business closures and massive layoffs in sectors that depend on women.
The pandemic has indeed revealed the precarious conditions of informal workers in the Arab region and other regions of the world. For these workers, choosing to work or remain unemployed means choosing between starving to death or dying from the virus.
The study also showed that 72.3% of domestic workers, estimated at 55 million last June, are at risk of losing their jobs and wages because of total or partial general health containment.
