Indonesia: New labour law sets the country on fire

Thousands of workers gathered in the streets of the capital Jakarta on their motorcycles to denounce the new labor law.

Protests continue for the second consecutive week in Indonesia after the government approved a new law to strengthen investment and limit bureaucracy. For their part, the unions believe that this law calls into question certain rights enjoyed by workers until then and threatens the environment. In this context, one official said on Monday that about a thousand workers gathered in the center of Jakarta for a new demonstration against the said law.

The authorities arrested approximately 6,000 protesters and several incidents of violence, including fires of public property, were intercepted in certain regions of the country.
