Palestine: Cooperation agreement between the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions and the Ministry of Women's Affairs

The headquarters of the Palestinian Ministry of Women's Affairs witnessed last Sunday the signing of a cooperation agreement between Shaher Saad and Dr. Amal Hamad on the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions and the Ministry of Women's Affairs for a basis and inclusion of gender issues in the labor sector.

 

d, women's participation in the labor market would be enhanced among other demands like equal payments and protection against violence.

 

On his part, the Union Secretary-General Shaher Saad emphasized the importance of integrating efforts with the ministry in raising the suffering of working women, securing the rights of workers in the public sector, and in keeping with the international agreements of labor laws in Palestine and providing the social protection for workers.

 

The representative of the International Labor Organization (ILO) stressed that his organization should support the implementation of the provisions of the Convention, to reduce poverty and violence and provide social protection to Palestinian workers in the private sector, in the Gaza Strip and all governorates, in settlements, and to provide redress to disabled women.

 

The Convention provides for the full cooperation of the parties in a program to increase the participation of women in trade unions, organize trade union activities, conferences, symposia and courses, and carry out awareness-raising and advocacy campaigns for the rights of working women, particularly in the education and kindergarten sector.
